The National Stage
Mainly a Performing arts theater placeAbout The National Stage:
Renovated Art Nouveau theater for modern & classical drama & musicals, performed in 3 auditoriums.
Must see in Bergen. Beautiful theater located on the hill in the center of the city. The interior is amazing and has a lot of culture and history. They offer many interesting plays.
Went to see Chaplin’s The great dictator in Norwegian and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It would have been helpful to have English surtitles as more and more often one now encounters also in prose theatres worldwide, following suit from the colleagues in opera, opening the dramatic experience also to foreign visitors. I personally found the experience of only sporadically understanding the spoken text particularly interesting as it made me concentrate more on the non verbal communication and the excellent acting skills of the protagonist who, more than once, seemed to even surpass the original! Beautiful art nouveau decorations of the theatre in beautiful Bergen - give it a try!
This beautiful building is Norway's oldest permanant theatre. It was completed in 1909. It was built to promote Norway's playwriters. There is a lot of greenery aroud and is very close to pedestrian zone. Worth seeing...
Beautiful national theater, historical place, home to the some of the first distributions of Ibsen's plays. The building breathes the same air of the past. Lovely statue of Ibsen close by.
The main state theatre in Bergen. A rather beautiful Art Nouveau building in its own right (there are several lovely Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings in Bergen). I haven’t seen a production at the theatre so can't speak to the quality of the productions but the interior and exterior are well worth checking out.
Nice traditional layout. Second level front row recommended seating. Water and a few chocolate/candy-snacks for sale at the kiosk in the lobby.
A small, intimate, family-friendly stage that puts on impressive, creative productions. This time the hip hop show, "Norr" was presented. The stage is low, so front row seating may be preferable. Great sound system, lighting, grabs the audience and enthralls them into the story. Drinks are allowed into the theater. "Norr" is very highly recommended, should you have the opportunity to to watch it.
Did not watch any theater play. The exterior was grand and there a nice little parks surrounding the national stage. Make a short visit as it's only few minutes walk from city centre.
